Pep Guardiola - Barca legend

Guardiola was an amazing player, almost every pass was perfect, he could get the odd goal, and he provided great service to his team.

a super player, but Cesc is really not far from that. His passing is second to none and he can score as well, as well as being reasonably good defensively, as Guardiola was as well, although that was not really noticed as much as his passing.

Overall both on a similar level of brilliance.

King David Beckham

One of the greatest footballers of all time!

Beckham has 105 caps to his name but has found his place under threat from a host of younger right-sided players, not least Arsenal teenager Theo Walcott who scored a hat-trick against Croatia in Beckham's place in Zagreb.

Still, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man is ready and willing to do anything in his power to help manager Fabio Capello - even if it means warming the bench.

José Basualdo

Argentina’s era of success was initiated in 1978 and continued in the following years with another title in Mexico 1986 and a runner-up’s medal in Italy 1990.

Some of the leading lights of both Carlos Bilardo’s teams were there at the Monumental stadium to play their part on the pitch and bring colour to the event.

Here’s what Basualdo had to say…

It’s alway great to be around the national team. From that era, I remember idolising Kempes and Luque, along with Fillol. But everyone deserves a special mention. The title triggered a wave of emotion that exceeded other things that were going on in other parts of the country. Physically, we’re all in good shape apart from Tarantini ”.

And everyone laughed...

In our days he is the coach of Peruvian team Cienciano del Cuzco.
